Day Two Underway Saints Islands – 8 July
Aimee got me up for watch at 4am. Up on deck the moon was full and sky clear with just a few squalls on the radar. i was happy to note that sunrise was at 550am and before long it was starting to get light. as the sun came up the winds started to lighten up and switch around, pushing us towards grenada (30nm away). they continued sto shift around all day and we just kept sailing where the pushed us. we changed plans about half a dozen times on where we where “going”. finally around 3 pm they finally died of completely. we...

So this am we thought we had only a few things to “grab” before leaving, alas this turned out to be harder than expected. the irony of the day was the dude who “saved” palapa needed a ride to shore at 7am for a job. of course i took him and did not ask him to pay me for dingy fuel:) the plan was to get paint at 8am and then hit the 9am bridge opening. this would have worked well but it took them 20 minutes to figure out they did not have the paint so we aborted and took palapa out and anchored first. i dropped aimee...

Today was even more of a full on day than the day before. We started off with getting the anchor up and entering the lagoon on the 930am bridge. This went smoothy enough but by then it was really blowing and we had to get fuel. i made a flawless pass at the fuel dock but it was a starboard tie with no one on the dock and we where getting blow off. eventually two passes later some one showed up and got the bow line so aimee was able to stop us with the stern line. $330 dollars and 90 gallons later we where off to anchor in the lagoon. ...

So in spite of our rockstar 4th of july we where up early to take the motor in to budget. i had to put the old one in the dingy on the floor and put a new end on the old hose so we could use the new tank with the old motor fun fun. we dropped off the laundry and then headed over to budget with our list, primarily bottom paint and the motor. of course the two motor guys where “out sick” and they where not sure if they would be in at all this week. i guess if i lived in paradise i would not show up to work everyday either. while...

Last night we had a major squall, which was nice as it cleaned off the boat but again reminded us we have 3 leaking windows which i really need to try to do something about. the weather was not looking good for the 4th of july parade and we thought it might be canceled but we still headed in to grab a bloody marry and coffee at our favorite restaurant and plan our lunch. as we sipped our drinks the weather began to break so we headed to the naked bar to watch the parade. around 11am the sun came out and the parade came by. alas no pictures but...

so having missed “dinner” yesterday it was all we could do to hold out until lunch for the grouper sandwich at Andy and Cheryl’s. We where planning to try the grouper sandwich but when we arrived there where 3 to choose from. grouper burger, jerked grouper burger and stuffed grouper burger. the stuffed option included grilled onions and fresh lump crab along with the jerk sauce. we split one and it was amazing! we also asked if there where any 4th of july festivities tomorrow and where pointed at “woody” and...

so today the plan was to head into our favorite restaurant for a grouper sandwich. unfortunately we realized they had mentioned they where closed on mondays. undeterred we decided to head back to the naked bar. this was a good call as most everything on the non-naked side of the beach was closed at 10am. after waiting 2 hours for the kitchen to open we shared a burger at the naked bar and had just enough money left for a rum and coke before swimming out to a little floating platform where we brainstormed about business ideas. its looking...

so today started even earlier, somehow we both found our selves up at 6am. aimee wanted to go around the corner to orient bay for the “sunset beach bar” 20th anniversary party. it was 10nm of bashing into the wind but at 6am it seemed pretty calm so i agreed. no sooner had we got out of the anchorage than the wind started to really kick up. i was up at 2800 rpm with the turbo kicked in doing sub 5 kts. as we continued around the point i started to worry about running out of fuel. we still had 10 gal in the jerry jugs so i was not...

in spite of our late night arrival we where both up just after sunrise. aimee was doing her yoga again so i decided to head into budget and go find internet. i had been unable to get bgan going on the passage and i wanted to get an update on a tropical “trough” 600nm east of us moving in our direction. i headed over to lagoonies and fortunately the “trough” had vaporized. after that i went over to budget where i spent $480 on a dingy cover oil, filters etc. pretty much my whole boat budget for july! i also showed...

The original plan was to spend another day “working” here in virgin gorda and then head to St Marteen to try to deal with the outboard and pick up our dingy chaps at sunset for an overnight sail. Alas when i got up i discovered the weather window had moved in with the sub 1 meter seas ending at midnight tonight rather than noon tomorrow. aimee was happily doing yoga so i let her finish up before informing her of the new plans. i remember mentioning one of the upsides to this was we could fish. did i mention now that i dont have to...
