Recovery day in Marigot bay – 18 july

as you can see from the last few posts we have been really getting the most out of the last few days and again run up against the jimmy buffet dogma “i cant run at this pace very long”. so today rather than leave first thing in the morning for our next destination we decided to take a day off and recover. aimee and i went to “town” about 20 meters from the moorings dock and got a new sim card (so yes you can call us again) and some veggies and eggs. i installed aimee’s new fan. this one has a gaurd and is a...

Fish Cakes in Paridise St Lucia – 17 july

well today turned out to be another pretty full day. we started out with a bit of work. larry thanks for the glasses i am using them more and more now. aimee did make me put a shirt on for this shot. this was followed by banana smoothies for breakfast. did i mention we had too many bananas thanks to sietse not having any small change the night before. yes sietes is naked in the dingy, he swam over sans cloths and we did not want to let him take the towel home. after breakfast fun it was time to get some work done. siets and i headed...

Mack to Marigot Bay St Lucia – 16 july

we got an email from seats and jen that they where going to marigot bay today so after a bit of “discussion” on our pans we decided to go join them. it was a great broad reach back with about 20kts of wind on the beam. i put aimee in charge and managed to make myslef sesick working on the computer down below. we got up to 3 meter swells between the islands where we where exposed to the full atlantic. i finally came up to have beer and recover only to have us take one wave into the cockpit which managed to get both of us even...

Relaxing in Grand Anse Martinique – 15 July

Actually i spent most of the day on the computer thanks to the wifi code we got from “piti bauteau” when we had our fish fritters yesterday. aimee went for a brief hike between rain showers. fortunately the sun came out just in time for happy hour and i actually got two electrical projects complete. i installed aimee’s new fan in the kitchen and put a new plug on the vacuum. very exciting! i also caught up with larisa who is now living up in portland near mc and nick. if you remember larisa and hobs sailed across the...

Basstille day Forte de France – 14 July

we woke up with the sun again and while aimee was ashore running i was surprised by this frigate or something that came up behind us. i could swore i saw this same one in the red sea! they wasted no time getting anchored and then playing what i presume was the french national anthem as they ran up a stream of flags (see photo). aimee reported a bunch of military people milling around so we headed to shore anticipating a parade or something. we arrived on shore and after a few rain squalls the parade started up. aimee and i had e brief...

St Pierre to Forte de France – 13 July

so this morning just after sun rise we motored over from the “cannery” to the town so i could get wifi while aimee did yoga. after yoga the town was not looking super exciting to me so i stayed on palapa to work while aimee headed ashore to explore. she found the market and got us some soup ingredients among other things. we had decent internet so we decided to chill and get some work done. i got a few blogs up and aimee did some more work on my new website. around 3pm we where kind of done working, we had started at 6am. it...

Underway to Martinique – 12 July

Well today we where planning to get caught up on internet and then leave in the evening to sail south to st lucia. however once we got on line we discovered the winds where switching around to the south in the evening so it looked like our best shot would be to leave straight away and just sail the 50nm or so to st martinique. by the time we got the dingy back and everything organized straight away was more like 10am. the sail started out great but shortly after we left the arbor and got into the lee of the land the winds started to not...

Exploring Dominica – 11 July

Aimee had invited the hippies over for egg-mignon at the end of our evening last night. she suggested 9am and much to our happy surprise jen said it would have to be by 730 or they would be starving. this was great for us as we have been getting up somewhere between 5 and 6am. in the end we where a few minutes late but the egg-mignon was a great hit siets had at least 3, which is just as well as you can see from his photo he could use some more meat on his bones! we decided to try again for a “local” lunch and at 1230 headed in....

Sietse Jen & Reunion on Waka-Irie – 10 July

Aimee got us up bright and early to head south the 18nm to dominica. We where concerned the winds would shift more southerly latter in the day so we bashed east around the island before heading south. This turned out to be unnecessary pain as we had more of a reach for the short sail down. We did get a bit of practice hand steering once we got in the lee of the island with the winds switching around every which way. Aimee actually enjoys hand steering so i was quite happy to handle the sheets. unfortunately we lost our favorite lure early...

Relaxing in Saints Island – 9 July

We awoke early to winds blowing out of the south, into our anchorage. I was glad we had decided not to head south today and wasted no time dropping the mooring and heading for the more sheltered part of the bay off the “main town”. we tried the “yacht club” first but this seemed to have seen better days with no dock and no wifi regardless of what the cruising guide said. we ended up picking up another mooring off this little “ship bow” looking place (we found out later it is a Dr office). we spent the day...
