Waka Irie Day sail to St George – 13 Aug
we blasted over to waka irie in the tiki and wasted no time breaking out the cold beer and getting the dinghies tied up and under way. we had a super relaxing sail over. always great to be on someone else’s boat. sietse complained a bit about the rolling but we where right at home so happy to be on an actual floating boat! i did have a work call, yes it looks like i am working again, will be even better if i can get paid again, stay tuned. we arrived back in st george’s and anchored where we had arrived in Grenada a few weeks...

well we did it! it took longer and more paint this morning to get the second coat on everything but we managed to “finish” our painting and get the tape off. apparently you can only leave the tape on for 48 hours we pushed it another 12 and it was quite hard to get off and did leave some gum. this was a small price to pay for not having to re-tape! all that is left is to get the final coat done on wed and hopefully launch on thurs. so we are off to join sietes and jen for the sail over to carnival! cheers, Roger ...

well we had a bit of rain off and on in the morning but then the sun came out around 9am and amazingly in spite of the weather forecast stayed out! i got started by doing batch of primer and i did a coat on the stern hull segment and transom and i was able to do almost the full port side as well. the hardest part was mixing the stuff fortunately aimee had got a drill mixer attachment as the stuff was like clay. i could not believe we where supposed to let this stuff sit for 30 minutes after mixing it before putting it on they call this...

well today we got off to a bit of a slow start. it was nice to have the yard quite and catch up on email and aimee even did her yoga. but alas just as we where getting ready to get going around 9am it started raining. the good news was i got a few blog updates kicked out and did some more work on this new contract opportunity tim found while we waited for the rain to subside. the rain paused and i got going sanding while aimee headed off for the final final parts run. we pretty much sanded under the boat on and off all day. finally it...

so today started with some guys coming back asking if we where ready to be sanded yet. i was concerned we where going to be getting in trouble for taking so long so i kind of brushed them off. i would find out later the yard manager was off for carnival and they where just looking for something to do. i spent the first half day grinding and aimee sanded. we where both pretty overwhelmed and frustrated. it was the last day before everything shut down and we had not been able to get any paint on so it looked like another 2 to 3 days after...

so last night was hell. we woke up at midnight or so covered with mosi bites. i turned on the light and i could see tons of mosis flying around the cabin we had all the screens in but apparently these buggers are small enough to get in. we closed all the hatches making it even hotter and maxed the fan. i could not sleep so i got the electric fly swatter and started swatting. it was very frustrating i could not seem to hit anyone. then i noticed a pile of 8 carcasses on the bed next to me. i mushed each one individually to make sure they...

so today i decided to tackle the lower rudder bearing first. primarily because everything else was overwhelming. if you recall i had to fix this in kupang underwater, that was fun! at that pint i learned that the brass part had been replaced with a stainless part. some months later this part finally made it out to me and i have been caring it around for a year or two. aimee finally got the right bolts as well yesterday so finally we where ready to swap it out. the job was not too bad the hardest part was making sure i did not freeze up...

today we awoke to hear that today was an official “half day holiday” in honor of the Grenadian woman winning a gold medal in the olympics. of course we where scheduled to come out of the water at 1300 and the half day “off” was the afternoon. fortunately we had always planned to head around to the yard first thing so we head this announcement as we where heading into prickly bay. after a quick snorkel to refresh my memory on where the prop and keel where in relationship to the “PAPALA” on the side of the...

well today i decided to get going on the fridge phase 2 project. i had noticed that the fridge/freezer seemed to have a similar lack of ventilation. there was a grill behind the unit that apparently was designed to draw air into the fridge compartment. this was about 3 inches below the fan but even more importantly it was in a locker. this locker i use for tools and parts but it was designed for a washer dryer. on top of this once i got into the fridge compartment i noticed that there was also no real outlet for the warm air either so you...

So today i got going on the fridge insulation first thing. this was not too hard a job just had to cut the insulation panels for under the sink and secure them. i did this while we ran the engine. the good news is aimee is adapting well to doing yoga with the engine running at 1700 rpm. we had promised sietes and jen we would get cuba libre out for them first thing but no one was moving so i got started on the solar panel as well. the panel install was not to hard if you remember i actually have it mounted over the lines. all i had to...
